Major Philip Welch

Major Welch served 20 years in the Air Force, retiring in 2017. He was assigned as an AFROTC Instructor for Detachment 390 at the University of Michigan for three years and another semester at Detachment 017, Troy University. Maj Welch joined the Wharton team in January 2020 and serves as the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor for Wharton High School.

CMSgt Edward Slacum

Chief Slacum served 30 years in the Air Force, retiring in 2018. He earned his Master Instructor Certification while assigned as an Instructor for the Air Force Intelligence Officer Course.  During his time on active duty, Chief Slacum had the opportunity to serve in various leadership positions to include Interim Command Chief Master Sergeant for the 480th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Wing and Senior ISR Liaison Officer to the Commanders of United States European Command and United States Africa Command.  Chief Slacum concluded his Air Force career as the Superintendent for the 548th ISR Group where he led over 1,500 Airmen, civilians and defense contractors in global ISR operations.  Chief Slacum joined the Wharton team in August 2018 and serves as the Aerospace Science Instructor and Director of Air Force JROTC programs for Wharton High School.
