Archery Team

The TX-954 Archery team made an impressive debut at the JROTC National Archery Championship Tournament and the CENTERSHOT Eastern National Archery Championship Tournament.

This is the first year we have had an archery program and it was the first time many of our Cadets ever fired a bow.  We were excited to learn that we qualified for the Texas State Archery Tournament in April but were shocked to learn that we would also be competing in two national-level championship tournaments.

To make it to the national-level in our first year is a testament of the hard work, commitment, and dedication of our Cadets. I can't express how proud I am of each of them.  I look forward to coaching next year's team as we once again have our sights set on Nationals.

The Cadets of Wharton High School's AFJROTC Program have been named the recipients of the AY 21/22 Silver Star Community Service with Excellence Award. This is the highest unit-level award in AFJROTC.   This prestigious award recognizes the top 5% of all AFJROTC units based on community service in support of schools and local communities (there are currently over 870 AFJROTC units worldwide). The mission of AFJROTC is to “Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.” The importance of service and understanding how it positively impacts our cadets, schools, communities, and our nation is a critical component of what we strive to teach through our program and is a central part of our mission in AFJROTC. This award also recognizes the cadets' personal growth and accomplishments, the instructors' contributions as mentors, and the support of the school and the local community.   During AY 22, the Cadets from Wharton High School's AFJROTC program completed 668.21 hours of dedicated community service.  Each Cadet from AY 22 will receive the Silver Star Community Service Award ribbon to be worn on their uniform.

Wharton High School's AFJROTC unit has been awarded the AFJROTC Distinguished Unit Award, the highest award a unit can receive during a non-inspection year.  Congratulations to all of the Cadets, your hard work and commitment to excellence continue to take the Wharton High School AFJROTC unit to new and greater heights!

We are pleased to announce that beginning in the 22/23 academic year, Wharton High School's AFJROTC program will be offering Cadets the opportunity to participate as members of a competition Archery Team.  As with all of the programs we offer, this will be at no cost to the Cadet.  All equipment and training will be provided free of charge.

In order to join the Archery Team, you must be a member of the AFJROTC program.

Cadets (including upcoming 1st-year Cadets) will have the opportunity to practice and hone their archery skills during our summer program.  For more information regarding the Archery Team, don't hesitate to get in touch with Chief Slacum eslacum@WhartonISD.net.
